Chorus frogs at Techny Prairie Park

A harbinger of spring, the chorus frogs have emerged from their mud-encased slumber and broken into constant song. I captured this audio on a recent unseasonably warm evening, positioning myself — and my Zoom digital recorder — near the marsh at Techny Prairie Park. I’m hoping to sell the audio to HoMedics for use in the company’s SoundSpa products.

I don’t think of myself as being overly nostalgic, and I’m not a big fan of caged animals, but I nonetheless enjoyed spending a recent afternoon at Cosley Zoo, a place I visited countless times as a child growing up in Wheaton, IL. Looking at the smile below, it’s obvious my daughter also enjoyed our trip to the zoo.

Weekends at my family’s farm often involve lingering in the kitchen late into the morning with a cup of coffee, which is what I was doing when I took this photo to test the macro-bility of my Canon 60mm lens.

I captured this eight-minute recording last Saturday at my family’s farm, Marmac, which sits 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis. Listening to the recording, what strikes me is that, though it seemed calm outside, the amount of aural activity taking place was intense.

A Zenith high-fidelity radio sits atop an antique dresser in my family’s farmhouse. I know what you’re thinking: How can I get that eagle-riffic wallpaper for my own home?

Stonecrop bursts through the soil in my backyard, as today’s temp in Chicago reached 81 humid degrees, an all-time high for March 14 and the third-earliest 80-degree day on record.

My previous post featured a rusty license plate. Logically, then, my follow-up post shows a beat-up, plate-less car. I took this photo at a body shop parking lot in Fowler, IN. The car — which I think is a Fiat but could be an Alfa Romeo — resembles a dead fish, methinks. In the same lot, I photographed a vintageĀ Camaro and a tiger-striped, electric-orange pickup truck.
